Splash hashers!

Get out those kayaks for an overnight trip to Motuihe.

The tide is right to cross over on February 6th. High tide is at 2:00pm. Met at St Heliers at 1:00pm to allow us to be on the water at high tide.We will be staying in tents so bring everything you will need for this.

The campsite is lovely with a great beach.Take your own shower and also torch.

We will return at 1:00pm as high tide is at 2:51. The DOC  site states that it takes 2:30 hrs to kayak. We could stop over at Browns Island for a break.

Kawhia

I have comformation on two Aotea bach/houses @ $100, and $120 per nite . they sleep 7 and 8 respectively and I believe they would be far more suitable than the paddock Crude

has suggested (better to have toilets and running water, showers, kitchen etc etc )

One is on the water front and both have grounds suitable for pitching tents.

I will start taking deposits and it will be first in first served and will work out at about $15 per night. BYO kayaks ,booze ,food etc.

I will try and set up a sea fishing charter with the' Dove' that will cost about $100 BYO rod and bait. I have fished with these guys before with great results.

The whole region offers a great many activities ,

  • kayaking
  • fishing, both trout and salt water, surfcasting and sea.
  • great tramping
  • hot water beach, just dig ahole in the sand and watch the sun go down.(well untill the tide comes in anyway)
  • hunting, there are still lots of wild life around the region (goats, deer, and pigs, wayward hashers)
  • sleeping
  • drinking, the small town of Kawhia has five watering holes and five churchs.
  • we will even have a hash run or two

so any way this is a start,a start to a great weekend

regards Toe Job (that great guy from out west)

Tramping weekend  April 10 & 11 2010

Waitawheta Tramline out of Waihi

Leave Auckland at 8am to avoid traffic problems. We should get to Waihi at about 10:00 for morning tea and a chance to re-group. Please look at the links for information on what to bring. I would suggest tramping boots rather than track shoes as we will need to do some river crossings.

Bring your own food and maybe nibbles to share depending on what you can carry! Bring a cooker and pot to be on the safe side and of course your own plates and cutlery.

There is parking available on the roadside.
